Creating art was a passion when I was a child, and it was my favourite subject all the way through school. I wanted to study art at college but that didn’t happen and my creativity didn’t really show itself again until my early forties. I happened to see some abstract art in a gallery and thought “I can do that”…. And so I did! What started out as a hobby has now become a career that I’ve totally embraced. In recent years, I’ve been fortunate to exhibit my work many times in the UK, and also four times in the USA. I now have collectors of my work in the UK, USA, Australia, France and Ireland.
The word ABSTRACT is derived from a Latin word meaning “pulled away” or “detached”, and the general idea is of something that is removed from physical reality. I therefore invite you to view my work and to enjoy the colours, textures and compositions without necessarily relating what you see to anything in the real world. The title of each painting may suggest a link to reality but, very often, you will see something different to that which others may see. For me, that is the appeal of abstract art…. It stretches the imagination.
When I take hold of a blank canvas, there’s an excitement that’s hard to explain. The creative possibilities are infinite and abstraction offers all those possibilities. I sometimes paint in a planned manner, and other times I let the application of paint and texture lead the way until I reach what I feel is a finished painting. Quite often, the end result takes me by surprise in an amazing and uplifting way.
I hope that you enjoy browsing through my gallery pages, and maybe you’ll fall in love with a painting to hang in your home. I’m also more than happy to discuss your particular ideas for a commissioned abstract painting to enhance your home or office.
